Two weeks ago I started doing Weight Watchers. Why? Because as much as I know about exercise, I believe food was my issue. Diet is 80 per cent when losing weight, and I wasn’t really working on it, and when I was, I would become frustrated not knowing what to eat, what is right and what isn’t. For who doesn't know what Weight Watchers is or how it works, here it is:
It’s a diet system that assigns a number of points to each meal, type of food, ingredient or drink (of the entire gastronomy pretty much) and allows you to eat 26 points in a day however you want. Eat them all at once, or spread them throughout the day. Your choice!
When I thought of Weight Watchers, I knew this is what I needed. It would be like a personal trainer – setting a diet for me, and I would just have to follow it. I did, of course, have to plan on my own what to eat, decide if it’s healthy or not, all that complicated stuff, but I started out eating whatever I wanted without going over the 26 points or if I did go over, it would only be a few. Slowly, without even realizing it, I started to make healthier choices - lower points value foods – because I was hungry when I wasn’t eating healthy, the points allowing to have maybe just two meals a day with no snacks. Two weeks later, however, I am making healthy choices on a daily basis, and on Fridays I visit subway for a Roasted chicken sandwich on flat bread with Swiss cheese and light mayo – 11 points :)
Another thing you don’t know about me is that I am taking a Fitness and Nutrition course and planning to be a fitness instructor. I have just started, but I will be learning a lot about this field and slowly I will be able to prepare diets on my own – healthy, filling ones, of course.
Weight Watchers is a good place to start, but you can’t be counting points and measuring food your whole life. You need to learn which foods are good for you, and which aren’t. And I am learning that, slowly. The WW system pushes you to do that. Once I reach my weight goal, I will be confident enough to make healthy food choices without counting points and it will be a lifestyle with the purpose of maintaining my body in good shape.
That being said, I will slowly post recipes and photos of meals, I will even mention the points value as someone may want some inspiration if they’re following WW. Let me know if you’ve done or are doing WW and how has it been for you so far. Meanwhile, here is a healthy salad I made, and will be posting the recipe soon.
Writing soon,
Bri
